Make all stall widths in multiples of 42”, 44”, 45”, 46”, 48”, 51” or 54”.  If your contractor lays out the stalls such that your widths are anything other than exact multiples you will have to plan for extra seams.  If you make the end stall anything but the full dimension, you will need to end the run one (1) stall short and place a small bed in the end stall.

We recommend a 3” schedule 40-brisket locator.  We have found the PVC tall enough and uncomfortable enough to let the cow know where you want her to lay.

The 3” PVC allows the leg to extend naturally.  When the cow gets up the smooth PVC will not injure the les as she pulls it back.

We recommend fastening the PVC under every stall.  The bracket used to fasten the PVC can be placed in the desired distance from the rear of the stall with two (2) cement anchors.  A number of factors need to be considered when deciding on the position of the brisket locator.

1. Size of the cows in your barn
2. Lunge space available.
3. Personal preference

For the average size Holstein herd, we recommend the locator be 70” from the back of the stall (alley curb) to the front edge of the PVC.

We recommend a 1 ½ percent slope on your stalls from the front to the rear.
